I thought this was a brilliant album.  Excellent production, as always, from the OutKast camp.  Great guest spot by Jay-Z.

Brooklyn Nets Officially Announced

Residents of Brooklyn have been displeased with the sports world ever since their beloved Dodgers ditched the New York borough and headed west to Los Angeles after the 1957 season. But now they have reason to rejoice, even though baseball hasn’t returned to Flatbush.

That’s because the NBA will have a Brooklyn franchise for the 2012-13 season, and the relocated New Jersey Nets will proudly wear the Brooklyn name.

The Nets announced the name change at a press conference today at the site of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where the Brooklyn Nets will take up residence.

Jay-Z, the music mogul who’s married to Beyonce and who’s a minority owner in the Nets, took part in the announcement.

“From the moment the Barclays Center became a reality, I knew this meant something significant for Brooklyn,” said the Brooklyn native.

The team had been expected to adopt the Brooklyn name, but it didn’t become official until today.

Made in America- Jay-Z, Kanye West Ft. Frank Ocean

A look at the different paths Jay and West took to success.  Kanye speaks to his mother’s support of his production in the summers while HOV recalls nights cooking up dope in his grandma’s kitchen to feed his family.

I pledge allegiance to my Grandma/
For that banana pudding, our piece of Americana/
Our apple pie was supplied through Arm & Hammer/
Straight out the kitchen, shh don’t wake Nana!/
Built a republic that still stands/
I’m trying to lead a nation, leave to my little man’s

With a haunting chorus sung by OFWGKTA’s Frank Ocean, this is one of the best on the album.

Why I Love You- Kanye West and Jay Z (Ft. Mr. Hudson)

Watch The Throne finally comes out tomorrow.  A cancelled January release date and 3 scrapped albums later (due to poor testing) the Roc-A-Fella crew think they’ve found the magic formula.  I’m not so sure. The beginning of the album is pretty weak but there are a few gems.  Murder to Excellence might be my favorite, great sound progression.  Who Gon Stop Me comes off more like a remix then an original (Flux Pavilion I Can’t Stop sample).  The album is lyrically heavy Jay Z, Kanye pulls through with some excellent production, maximizing their respective skill sets.  Nice to see OFWGKTA’s Frank Ocean getting two guest spots (Made in America is a dark horse winner).

Why I Love You features a great sample from Cassius’s I Love You So (although only released Oct 2010), I’ve been looking forward to this track since the documentary shot during the recording sessions.  This one is gonna stick around for a while, hits close to home.  Jay talks about the friends he brought into the music industry who have deserted him along the way (Beenie Siegel, Memphis Bleek, Dame Dash, etc.).  He gets pretty personal at times.  While the album might not be a knockout, it’s nice to hear some fresh HOVA lyrics.  Been a long career and he can still pull out some bangers.
